“911, what is your emergency?”

“HE’S GOING TO KILL ME!” The woman screamed into the phone. Where was she? The room felt sterile. A hotel? The morning sun broke through the curtains, and the woman shrunk back from the light. Her face was flushed as though from exertion. “HE’S GOING TO KILL ME!”

She paced in the shadows, darting glances over her shoulder as though something was behind her. No. Someone behind her. Where?

“Ma’am, who…who’s going to kill…”

“He’s mad! He’s mad!”

The woman gave an ear-piercing howl and staggered back. The phone tumbled to the floor, the screen shattering under the heel of a boot. Everything went dark.
